This glossary explains the words and abbreviations used by Lineage 2 players: currencies, classes, group content, items and server terms. Keep it open while you read guides or chat with other players. Names of classes and items stay in English, as in the game.
Terms A-Z
- Adena
- The main currency of Lineage 2.
- SP (Skill Points)
- Points earned from monsters and spent on learning skills.
- XP / EXP
- Experience points that raise your level.
- NPC
- Non-player character: a computer-controlled townsperson, trainer or merchant.
- Mob
- A monster you can fight.
- Party
- A small group of players (up to nine) hunting together.
- Clan
- A player organization with its own chat, levels and goals.
- Alliance
- A group of clans that cooperate.
- Castle
- A fortress that a clan can own after winning a siege.
- Siege
- A scheduled clan battle for control of a castle.
- Olympiad
- Competitive one-versus-one play for Noblesse characters.
- Hero
- A status given to top Olympiad players of each class for a period.
- Noblesse
- A status earned through a quest on a subclass, giving extra abilities.
- Subclass
- A second class that the same character can level separately.
- Profession / class change
- The upgrade of your class at levels 20, 40 and 76.
- Race
- Human, Elf, Dark Elf, Orc or Dwarf.
- Fighter / Mystic
- The two basic starting archetypes, physical or magical.
- Tank
- A player who absorbs enemy attention and damage.
- Healer
- A player who restores health and keeps the party alive.
- Buffer
- A support player who casts enhancing skills on allies.
- DD / DPS
- Damage dealer: a player focused on dealing damage.
- Dagger
- A melee class that uses daggers and burst damage.
- Archer
- A ranged class that uses a bow and arrows.
- Summoner
- A class that fights with a summoned servitor.
- Buff / debuff
- A positive effect on allies / a negative effect on enemies.
- Aggro
- The attention of a monster; whoever has it gets attacked.
- Pull
- Drawing monsters toward the party in a controlled way.
- Spoil / sweep
- A Dwarf skill that marks a monster for extra drops, collected by sweeping.
- Drop / loot
- Items that a monster leaves behind.
- Spellbook
- An item needed to learn certain skills.
- Soulshot / spiritshot
- Consumables that boost physical / magical damage.
- Grade
- The tier of equipment: NG, D, C, B, A, S.
- Crystal
- A material obtained from breaking equipment, used for crafting and enchanting.
- Enchant
- Raising the + value of an item with a scroll.
- Safe enchant
- The level up to which enchanting normally cannot fail.
- Blessed scroll
- An enchant scroll with extra protection on failure (rules vary).
- Recipe / craft
- A pattern and the process to produce an item.
- Raid boss
- A powerful monster hunted by parties or clans.
- Epic boss
- The strongest bosses, with long respawn times.
- Respawn
- The return of a monster or boss after being killed.
- Rates
- The multipliers a server applies to experience, SP, drops and Adena.
- Chronicle
- A content version of Lineage 2.
- Interlude
- The chronicle covered by this site.
- Private server
- A community-run server, not operated by the game publisher.
- Official server
- A server operated by the game publisher.
- PvP
- Player versus player combat.
- PK
- Player kill: killing a non-flagged player, which usually carries penalties.
- Karma
- A penalty stat given to players who kill others unfairly.
- Flag
- The state that marks a player as open to attack.
- Duel
- A consensual fight between players.
- Strider / Wyvern
- Mounts used for travel.
- Gatekeeper
- An NPC that teleports you between towns.
- Teleport
- Instant travel between locations.
- SoE
- Scroll of Escape: an item that returns you to a town.
- Warehouse
- Your stored items in town.
- Shortcut
- A bar slot for skills and items.
- Macro
- A saved sequence of commands.
- Cooldown (reuse)
- The time before a skill can be used again.
- HP / MP / CP
- Health, mana and combat points.
- Res
- Resurrection: bringing a dead player back.
- Lag / ping
- Delay between your actions and the server.
- Bot
- Software that plays automatically; usually forbidden.
- GM
- Game master: staff member who administers a server.
- Main / alt
- Your primary character / a secondary character.
- AFK
- Away from keyboard.
- GG
- Good game.
